During the height of the pandemic, when many found themselves isolated and overwhelmed, communities sought ways to lift spirits and promote connection. One unexpected and delightful solution came from Black Box MKE and the local artists they worked with: giant coloring pages. These full-page illustrations were designed to engage people of all ages, offering them an opportunity to relax, reflect, and create something fun during a difficult time.
I was among a handful of other MKE artists that got to create one of these pages. Beyond providing a much-needed mental escape, these projects helped promote local artists by showcasing their talent and connecting their work with a wider audience. They encouraged artistic collaboration and fostered a sense of unity, with people of all ages coming together to fill in the lines and make the designs their own.
