Middle Child album
Matthew Davies, a creative Milwaukee-based musician, recently released an awesome album in 2021. I jumped at the opportunity to create the album artwork. Davies's music is described as "an aura of mysterious familiarity—like stories, tones and melodies broadcast from a never-to-be-finished map of America." That description is pretty dang spot on; it was important to me that I create a map-like drawing to match the unique style of Davies's music.
I listened to this new album on repeat as I created this illustration, twisted with abstract figures and mysterious scenarios I felt matched the visually-rich stories in Davies's songs. The album artwork stacks as a repeatable tile pattern and was featured in the Poster Coloring contest held before the album was released.
